After a long winter preparing for my bees (organic bee school, hive building and painting, all around geeking out…) I finally installed my two hives today!

The weather was perfect – the bees were thrilled – and I am now officially an urban beekeeper! Oh how sweet it it is!

I’m keeping my hives at the apiary at Leland Community Herb Garden in Jamaica Plain – a gorgeous hidden garden with an incredible volunteer base right next to the Forest Hills Cemetery.

There is one other beekeeper, Sadie Richards, and she and I will be tending our hives at least every two weeks over the summer. If anyone is interested in participating in our hive inspections – or if you’re just curious and wish to watch from afar you are always welcome!  We have a bee-mail list dedicated to hive activities – so let me know and I’ll sign you up!
